Sun Safe in Cornwall

Visit Sun Safe in Cornwall

SunSafe in Cornwall is a project that was created to encourage people to enjoy the sunshine sensibly and avoid getting burned and also to raise awareness of the main changes to look out for on in skin, in particular any changes in size, shape or colour to moles.

What has become SunSafe began in May 2008 when Peter and Bet Kaye began campaigning to raise awareness of the dangers of the sun. A year earlier their daughter Becca had died from melanoma.

In 2009, Melanoma Fund donated £40,000.00, matched by a similar sum from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust, which provided the financial backing for SunSafe.

This became the worlds first ever, mobile mole awareness unit, AKA ‘The Mole Patrol’ and was, until recently on the road every year throughout summer in Cornwall, thanks to the dedication and drive of Caroline Macrae. Caroline (AKA Macca) worked full time taking the van round beaches, shopping centres and schools etc. as well as attending ski promotions, the work of the RNLI and numerous events to help raise awareness. An amazing dedicated lady!
