Steve is one of the best-known names in triathlon globally as a coach, race commentator, and journalist. He came into the sport from a running background and as well as competing, he soon got into coaching in the early 90s. He has coached medallists at European and World championships, as well as going to six Olympic and commonwealth Games as a coach, team manager, and/or commentator for triathlon, race walking, swimming, and open water swimming.

He has spent his life in the sun, both in an athlete and coach capacity, and advises his athletes to sun protect whilst training or racing.
