Ashley Charlwood
Being outdoors and doing adventurous things has been Ashley’s inspiration since childhood; a passion that has led to a robust and extensive knowledge of the outdoors, both as a practitioner and a senior manager.
He is a fully qualified professional Yacht master, mountain leader, mountain bike instructor, UKA run leader and holds membership as TechIOSH, and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation. When not working, Ash enjoys trail running, and has contributed to guidebooks for mountain biking, canoeing, and wild swimming.
“I’ve spent years involved in adventure sports, and now enjoy coaching and developing people in outdoor sports, as well as being the Health & Safety advisor to UKAthletics, and a consultant to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Sun protection is close to my heart, as I lost a close friend (a third-generation mountain guide) to melanoma in 2012, and went on to complete the Marathon de Sables in his memory in support the Melanoma Fund.
Adventure sport is much better when the sun is out, however sun protection isn’t yet in our everyday vocabulary, something I aim to help change.”
