Mr Sam Orkar

Mr Samuel Orkar is a skin cancer expert and consultant plastic surgeon, practising in the NHS and private hospitals in Kent, Sussex and Surrey. Mr Orkar is the Lead Clinician and Head of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Unit (MASCU) at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, he is on the GMC specialist register and is a full member of BAPRAS and BAAPS.

Professor Martin Gore

Professor Martin Gore is the medical director of The Royal Marsden and professor of cancer medicine at The Institute of Cancer Research. He qualified in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and spent time in general practice before training in general internal medicine at University College Hospital, London. He joined the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research in 1981 where he worked as a clinical scientist and was awarded a PhD for his work on breast cancer.

Julia Bradbury

The TV Presenter and all round outdoor enthusiast is proud to support us and is fully behind our ‘Outdoors Kids’ campaign.  Best known for her outdoor programmes, Julia is all too familiar with the ‘elements’.  Says Julia, “With a young child and a love of the outdoors, I am always mindful of the challenges of learning how best to be protected from the harmful effects of the sun while still enjoying a healthy outdoor lifestyle. This activity will help spread the word on how best to protect children and young adults, and I am looking forward to actively supporting the ‘Outdoor Kids’ campaign in 2014!”

Martin Johnson

Martin Johnson CBE, captain, England Rugby World Cup winners 2003 and British Lions 1997 and 2001 has a message: “The sooner we can find a cure for this terrible cancer that is affecting increasing numbers of sportsmen and women, the better”. This very quote inspired our ‘Outdoor Kids’ Campaign to do exactly that, by raising awareness in young active, people. Thank you Martin!

Alan Titchmarsh

Alan Titchmarsh is a former colleague of Harry Townsend when he was the assistant curator at Kew in London.  Alan very kindly wrote the foreword to Harry’s book ‘The Slowest Pilgrim’; the story of his fundraising walk along the Pilgrim Trail to Santiago de Compostela and we are delighted to say, supports melanoma research.

Paula Radcliffe

Paula Radcliffe MBE Gold medalist World Marathon Championships 2005, World Half Marathon 2000, 2001 and 2003, World Cross Country Championships 2001 and 2002, World 10,000m 2002 and Commonwealth 5000m 2002 and BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2002 wholeheartedly supports our efforts. Paula says: “If you’ve got a mole anywhere that’s changing in any way, get it checked out at once. Don’t put it off, melanoma kills”. We couldn’t agree more Paula!

CORPORATE

Leeds United FC

In 2005, Bruce Craven, Sports Therapist at Leeds United FC and former conditioner for Leeds Tykes RUFC and a trainer with Castleford Rugby League team, died from Melanoma. Following this, the support from his colleagues was enormous and is still on-going.  From wearing our green ribbon badges on their tracksuits for their match at Millwall to getting special permission from FIFA for the green ribbon badges to be printed onto their shirts for their final match of the 2004-5 season: a unique gesture of support. We currently receive donations from the sale of autographed merchandise on a regular basis.

Haskins Garden Centres

Haskins has been helping gardens all over the south of England to bloom since 1882. Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic

The Royal Tunbridge Wells Skin & Laser Clinic has recently taken us on as their charity of choice. Founded in 2005, the clinic has since helped thousands of clients improve their confidence and well-being.  As well as aesthetic procedures, the clinic also specialies in treating skin conditions such as psoriasis  vitiligo and also carries out laser mole scanning and removal. Mumsnet is a British website for parents, hosting discussion forums where parents give and receive peer-to-peer parenting support and discuss a range of other topics. We are hugely grateful to be their ‘Guest Campaign’  to tie in with Melanoma Awareness Week. Mumsnet have over 40,000 members and we look forward to keeping them informed on how best to make sure that their children have fun in the sun while staying protected from the harmful effects of the sun.

Swim for Tri

Swim for Tri  support us by organising charity open water swim races during their open water season. Based in London but now coaching across the UK, their swim technique and coaching concept was founded by brother and sister team, Dan and Keeley Bullock.  We are delighted to have them behind us.
